Is jaggery better than sugar in weight loss?

Yes, jaggery would be a better substitute of refined sugar in weight loss because of its nutrient content. Whereas sugar is a source of empty calories, jaggery is a source of trace minerals and antioxidants, which maintain metabolism and general health. Its digestion rate is also lower and therefore does not result in sudden increases in the level of blood sugar. But they are both sources of calories so the jaggery must be taken in limited amounts. A good replacement of sugar with jaggery is good, however, actual weight loss is dependent on general dieting and activity.
